Great Seafood Festival aka carnival

I, generally, avoid fairs and carnivals (with the exception of the Puyallup Fair, because everyone "Do the Puyallup!") But, Monty asked if we would come out in the morning before he had to work...so I did.  The kids had a good time, rode the rides and won a couple goofy/cheesy fair toys.  Oh, and I rode the Atmos-fear. Nine stories high people!

Kody loves a good merry-go-around!

Daddy, Peter-Leo and Kody on a ride together.

Giant Slide. best. ride. ever.
Peter-Leo completely agreed. BEST. RIDE. EVER!

Monty and I on our way up to the top of the atmos-fear!

Fort McAllister Lantern Tour

Last week we were able to visit Fort McAllister and attend their lantern tour (at night of course) to learn about civil war soldiers and their lives at night.  It was very interesting and we had a blast! Plus, I ran into an old church friend and her kids and Russ Powell our other good friend from Hinesville. All in all it was a good evening!

Kody pulling up the anchor chain to the USS Nashville

Peter-Leo easily lifts the anchor chain.

Two of the three anchors that survived the sinking/bombing from the USS Nashville.

These next two photos are from the one of the submarines; the US Nahant. I think. It amazing!!

NEAT STUFF!!

This is what it would have looked like from the top deck!

Some of the reenactors on our tour.

Russ Powell, Monty got him interested in blacksmithing; he is a dear friend!  He has always done the Civil War Reenactments, but so now he is the blacksmith!

One of the canons.  They fired two canon shots that night. It was loud but cool.

yummy stuff! Warm apple cider and ginger cookies.
At the end of the tour, they had warm apple cider and cookies available.  The kids sat down around a fire and enjoyed. It was a wonderful evening!  Thank you to all the great folks at Fort McAllister!!

Oh wait! One last photo! This is for my Dad! Some type of surveying tool! I thought it looked neat.

The Mighty 8th Air Force Museum

Last week, on one of Daddy's days off, we took the kids to the Mighty 8th Air Force Museum in Savannah.  It had been a five or so years since I took Peter-Leo, so it was the first time for Daddy and Kody.  They have done so much work in that time! Here are some photos from our day!

Daddy helping Kody look inside!

Kody and Peter-Leo in front of a MIG-something cockpit.

Kody, mad because I told her to stand nice, and Peter-Leo outside by the aircraft.

The Mighty 8th Air Force Museum was a wonderful testament to how strong, courageous the men and women were, are and will be!

Afterwards, we went to lunch and bowling.. here are those photos.

I guess no one liked my outfit.. too matchy-matchy! Should have saved it for the links! haha!

The ever happy and silly Kody.

Handsome and brillant Peter-Leo

Even with the bumpers up...
Kody still managed to get her bowl stuck in the gutter!! haha!

Monty picking up the spare! woot woot!
All in all it was a very nice day out with the entire family. It isn't very often that Monty gets to come along..he is usually working.

Madrac Farm's Pumpkin Patch

I found one! I actually found a pumpkin patch in the Coastal Empire (aka Savannah) that grows their own pumpkins! Other than the $1 charge to use your credit card (NOT LISTED ON THEIR WEBSITE) we had a good time.  And the kids were able to snap their pumpkins off the vine!! I loved it!! Here are some photos for ya'll to enjoy!

Look still on the vine!!

Mr. Cool

This is the giant pumpkin Kody wanted. No we did NOT buy it.
Peter-Leo, what a handsome fella!!

Kody telling me to be quiet; they were playing hide and seek in the hay castle.
The good shot of Kody at the edge of one of the hay tunnels!

And they grow up so fast.

Hmm.. I think I just heard something in the corn...
I love that I was able to take the kids to a real pumpkin patch, not the grocery store or some lighted and tented lot on the roadside.  I love showing my kids that some things come from someone else's hard work.  I think they will always remember these trips and call them "wonderful memories of my childhood."

Life has been too busy!

Well, for starters. We have moved. From Kingsland, Georgia (just 3 miles from Florida) to Savanah, Georgia,  two hours north!  I will be the first to admit I am not happy about it.  I had fallen in love with being so close to the beach, Fernandina Beach was a short jaunt down the highway, 35 minutes.  Now, Tybee Island is a blah pain in the arse 45-60 minute drive away. BLAH! Also, the kids and I were quite settled into a routine. Honestly, our life.  We rode bikes to school most days, we had soccer practice with a league that was relatively good, we had our nature centers, and museums and the Cummer Art Musuem and we had Jacksonville. We had a great neighborhood with neighborhood families that we loved and kids to play with that we gladly let invade our home.  We left that for what I have began calling "The Hill" aka Richmond Hill (the city we live in just outside of Savannah) for a better police department for Monty to work for.  I am heartbroken which is probably the cause of postings to be nonexistant.

Life isn't all lemons and bitter fruit... Monty is happy working with this new department, he likes the people he works with, they all seem to be really nice people. Peter-Leo's new school has all the gifted kids together in a class (well actually there are 3 gifted classrooms.) I have learned to let go of a lot of stuff, downsizing to a smaller home has proven good for my soul.  And between our moving truck not being available (hate Budget!) and scrambling to find another one (love Penske!) and the 2nd night in our new town having to take Kody to the ER for a high fever, and yesterday Peter-Leo's bike being stolen..the stress has intense.  Not that it is over, but it has lessened.

So, here are some photos from September and October for you to enjoy. Sorry they are late!

Visit to The Old Sheldon Church Ruins, Beaufort, SC

Kody, being silly in a sleeping bag, at Aunt Dana and Uncle Everrett home.

One of the hardest parts of moving was leaving our soccer program in the middle of the season! This was Kody's first season really playing (aka not staring at the sky or picking dandelions.) She loved it.

Thumbs up to Daddy!

In between Kody's game and the Peter-Leo's game,
I caught this photo of the boy with the most wonderfully handsome freckles!!

Peter-Leo after a game.
Kody moving the ball down field!!

Celebrating a goal with Coach Jennifer!!

The last day at Fernandina Beach, hate leaving a place that gave me such solace.
I literally cried while walking off the beach!
I finally got to see, on my last regular visit, a pod of dolphins!! They were beautiful creatures and they came very close to the shore! They were amazing, I walked parallel to them for a mile or so. It was very difficult to stop and walk back.
Fast Forward to The Hill. I went to the store and purchased some pumpkins for us to carve.

Peter-Leo's design.

Kody making faces while carving her pumpkin!

Peter-Leo and Daddy carving.
Our finished pumpkins! I know here in the south because of the heat and humidity that in couple days they will have completely turned to mush, but I needed to do something to get myself out of this rut!!

Kody, Daddy, Peter-Leo, and mine.

No, it didn't help. However, I did find a real pumpkin patch up in Rincon! And I mean they actually GROW THE PUMPKINS!! They aren't trucked in! Complete with Hay Castle, corn maze, farm animals and hay rides!! We are planning to go up this Saturday, and yes that could help!!
